Part7のシングルパッセージには4問セットが3つ出ます。文書が長くなるため、効率的に情報を見つける力が求められます。
4問セットでは語彙問題と文挿入問題がよく出ます。この2つはPart7固有の設問タイプで、解き方にコツがあります。このレッスンで攻略法を身につけましょう。
攻略法
語彙問題の解き方
語彙問題は “The word ‘___’ in paragraph X, line X, is closest in meaning to…” のように、文中の語の意味を聞く設問です。
注意：辞書に載っている第一の意味が正解とは限りません。 文脈に合った意味を選ぶことが重要です。
例：”The company will address the issue at the next meeting.”
→ address の第一の意味は「住所」だが、この文脈では「対処する」の意味
語彙問題の2ステップ：
Step 1：該当する語を含む文を読み、文脈から意味を推測する
Step 2：推測した意味に最も近い選択肢を選ぶ（元の語を選択肢の語に置き換えて文意が通るか確認する）
文挿入問題の解き方
文挿入問題は “In which of the positions marked [1], [2], [3], and [4] does the following sentence best belong?” という形式で、挿入文がどの位置に入るかを選ぶ設問です。
文挿入問題の3ステップ：
Step 1：挿入文を読んで「何について述べているか」を把握する
Step 2：挿入文の手がかりを探す
→ 指示語（this, these, it, such）→ 何を指しているか
→ 接続副詞（however, moreover, therefore）→ 前の文との論理関係
→ 固有名詞・代名詞 → 初出か2度目か
Step 3：各位置の前後の文を読み、最も自然につながる場所を選ぶ
