なぜやるか

Part 5には、前置詞と接続詞を見分ける問題がよく出ます。

選択肢に despite / although / during / while などが並んでいたら、このタイプです。

「意味で考える」と迷いますが、実は空欄の後ろの形だけで正解が決まります。

• 後ろが名詞（句） → 前置詞
• 後ろがS + V（主語＋動詞） → 接続詞

今日はこのルールを徹底的に使いこなせるようにします。

①前置詞の後ろは名詞（句）、接続詞の後ろはS+V

これが今日の最重要ルールです。

空欄の後ろを見るだけで判断できます。

②頻出ペア解説

TOEICで繰り返し出る前置詞・接続詞のペアを覚えましょう。

使い分けの実例：

• Despite the bad weather, → 後ろは名詞（the bad weather）→ 前置詞 ✓
• Although the weather was bad, → 後ろはS+V（the weather was）→ 接続詞 ✓

③副詞は文を修飾するだけで接続の機能はない

however, therefore, nevertheless, moreover などは副詞です。接続詞のように2つの文をつなぐ機能はありません。

副詞はピリオドやセミコロンの後に置くのがルールです。

• ✓ The project was delayed. However, the team met the deadline.
