Day 18：基本構文⑥（比較構文）【構文50〜60】
なぜやるか
Day 12で比較の基本（比較級-er / 最上級-est）を学びました。今日は比較を使った11の構文パターンを学びます。
比較構文は見た目が複雑ですが、パターンを知っていれば「あ、このパターンか」と一発で意味が取れます。TOEICのPart5でも比較に関する問題は頻出です。
本編：構文50〜60
構文50：as … as 〜「〜と同じくらい…だ」（原級比較）
- She is as tall as her mother.（彼女は母親と同じくらい背が高い）
- This book is as interesting as that one.（この本はあれと同じくらい面白い）
- He runs as fast as Tom.（彼はトムと同じくらい速く走る）
否定：not as … as 〜 ＝「〜ほど…ではない」
– This book is not as interesting as that one.（この本はあれほど面白くない）
構文51：比較級 + than 〜（復習＋発展）
- She is taller than her mother.（彼女は母親より背が高い）
- This book is more interesting than that one.（この本はあれより面白い）
比較級の強調：much / far / even / a lot + 比較級
– She is much taller than her mother.（彼女は母親よりずっと背が高い）
– This is far more important.（これははるかにもっと重要だ）
very は比較級を強調できない：
– ✓ She is much taller. / far taller.
– ✗ She is ~~very~~ taller.
構文52：the + 比較級, the + 比較級「〜すればするほど、ますます…」
- The more you study, the more you learn.（勉強すればするほど、たくさん学ぶ）
- The sooner, the better.（早ければ早いほど良い）
- The harder you work, the more successful you will be.（一生懸命働けば働くほど、成功するだろう）
構文53：最上級 + in/of 〜（復習＋発展）
- She is the tallest student in the class.（彼女はクラスで最も背が高い学生だ）
- This is the most important issue of all.（これはすべての中で最も重要な問題だ）
inとofの使い分け：
– in + 場所・グループ：in the class, in the world, in Japan
– of + 数・範囲：of all, of the three, of them
最上級の言い換え：
– She is the tallest in the class.
– ＝ She is taller than any other student in the class.（他のどの生徒よりも背が高い）
– ＝ No other student in the class is taller than she.（クラスの他の生徒で彼女より背が高い人はいない）
構文54：one of the + 最上級 + 複数名詞「最も〜なものの1つ」
- Tokyo is one of the largest cities in the world.（東京は世界で最も大きい都市の1つだ）
- He is one of the best players on the team.（彼はチームで最も優れた選手の1人だ）
ポイント：one of the + 最上級の後は複数名詞。 cities（✓）、city（✗）
構文55：no more than / no less than

- He has no more than 100 yen.（彼はたった100円しか持っていない）
- He has no less than 1 million yen.（彼は100万円も持っている）
構文56：A is no more B than C is D「AがBでないのはCがDでないのと同じ」
- A whale is no more a fish than a horse is.（クジラが魚でないのは馬が魚でないのと同じだ＝クジラは魚ではない）
これは有名な構文ですが、日常ではほとんど使いません。「見たらわかる」程度でOKです。
構文57：比較級 and 比較級「ますます〜」
- The weather is getting colder and colder.（天気がますます寒くなってきている）
- She became more and more popular.（彼女はますます人気が出てきた）
構文58：prefer A to B「BよりAの方が好きだ」
- I prefer tea to coffee.（コーヒーより紅茶の方が好きだ）
- She prefers walking to driving.（運転するより歩く方が好きだ）
ポイント：thanではなくtoを使う。
構文59：as many as 〜 / as much as 〜「〜もの（数・量）」
- As many as 500 people attended.（500人もの人が参加した）← 数えられる
- He earns as much as 10 million yen.（彼は1000万円もの額を稼ぐ）← 数えられない
構文60：倍数表現「〜倍…だ」
- This room is twice as large as that one.（この部屋はあれの2倍大きい）
- He earns three times as much as I do.（彼は私の3倍稼ぐ）
パターン：倍数 + as … as
