Day 1:なぜ「精読」が必要なのか ― 壁を壊す唯一の方法
なぜやるか
あなたは、英語の基礎力があります。単語もそこそこ知っている。文法もひと通り学んだ。Part 5もある程度解ける。
でも、こんな経験はありませんか?
- Part 7の長文を読んでいるうちに、何が書いてあったか忘れる
- 選択肢を見て「AもBも合ってる気がする…」と迷う
- 時間が足りなくて、最後の20〜30問は塗り絵になる
- 簡単な文章は読めるのに、難しい文章になると急に意味が取れなくなる

「なんとなく読み」をしている。
単語の意味をつなげて「だいたいこんな感じかな」と読んでいる。簡単な文章ならそれでも正解できます。でも、TOEICの文章は、「なんとなく」では正確に意味が取れません。

英語の文は「5つの文型」しかない
英語の文は、どんなに長く複雑に見えても、骨格は次の5文型のいずれかです。

C(補語) は S や O の状態・性質を説明する語。O(目的語) は動詞の動作を受ける語。この区別が精読の基本です。
修飾語句(前置詞句・分詞句・副詞など)はこの骨格に「いつ・どこで・どのくらい・なぜ」という情報を付け加えているだけです。
「なんとなく読み」と「構造で読む」の違い
次の文を読んでください。

「なんとなく読み」だと:
単語の意味は拾えています。でも、この文の骨格が見えていません。

ステップ1:修飾語句を( )で囲む
修飾語句とは、なくても文が成立するパーツです。主に以下の種類:
