Day 3:OやCに「文」が入る ― that節・whether節を見抜く
The survey revealed that customer satisfaction had dropped significantly over the past quarter.
– S: The survey(調査が)
– V: revealed(明らかにした)
– O: [that customer satisfaction had dropped significantly over the past quarter](顧客満足度が大幅に低下したということを)
The manager confirmed [that the meeting would be postponed].(名詞節)
下の文では、「the meeting would be postponed(会議が延期される)」という節全体が「confirmed(確認した)」の目的語になっています。
The report showed [that sales had increased by 15 percent].
The director announced [that the merger had been finalized].
confirm / announce / indicate / reveal / show / suggest / report / state / mention / note / find / conclude / expect / believe / recognize
The fact is [that the budget has been exceeded].
The concern is [that the deadline cannot be met].
It is important [that all employees attend the briefing].
It has been confirmed [that the contract will be renewed].
The question is [whether we can meet the deadline].(補語)
[Whether the plan succeeds or not] depends on funding.(主語)
✏️ POINT:whether節は〔whether S V or not〕の形が多い。
The CEO confirmed [that the company would expand into three new markets next year].
– S: The CEO
– V: confirmed
– O: [that the company would expand …]
骨格は「The CEO confirmed [that…]」
