Day 3では「名詞節(that節・whether節)」を学びました。
Although the restaurant received several negative reviews online, the number of reservations increased significantly after the new menu was introduced.
(Although the restaurant received several negative reviews online), the number of reservations increased (significantly) (after the new menu was introduced).
The number of reservations increased.(第1文型)
|---|---|---|
| 時 | when, while, after, before, once, as soon as, until, by the time | 〜のとき・〜している間・〜したあと・〜する前・〜したらすぐ・〜するまで |
| 理由 | because, since, as, now that | 〜なので・〜だから・〜になったので |
| 条件 | if, unless, as long as, provided that, once | もし〜なら・〜でない限り・〜である限り |
| 譲歩 | although, though, even though, even if, while, whereas | 〜だけれども・たとえ〜でも・〜であるのに対して |
| 目的 | so that, in order that | 〜するために |
| 結果 | so … that, such … that | 非常に〜なので |
(Although sales declined last quarter), the company maintained its market share.
→ When (you are) attending … の省略
(While reviewing the documents), the auditor found several discrepancies.
→ While (the auditor was) reviewing … の省略
(Once approved), the plan will be implemented immediately.
→ Once (it is) approved の省略
✏️ POINT:「when / while / if + 分詞」の省略形はTOEIC頻出パターン。
|---|---|---|
| that | × | The report shows that sales grew.(O) |
| whether | × | The question is whether it works.(C) |
| when | The alarm rang when he arrived.(時) | He asked when the meeting starts.(O) |
| if | Call me if you need help.(条件) | She asked if the item was in stock.(O) |
