なぜやるか
TOEICのPart5・Part6では、最上級（the + 最上級 + in / of）や比較を使った慣用表現が出題されます。
例えば「This is _ efficient system in the industry.」では、the most（最上級）が入ります。また「The ___ the deadline approaches, the more anxious the team becomes.」では、closer（比較級を使った The 〜er, the 〜er 構文）が入ります。
このLesson 24を終えると、最上級の形と使い方・倍数表現・The 比較級 the 比較級を使いこなせるようになります。
本編
① 最上級の作り方
最上級は「A is the + 最上級」の形で「最も〜」という意味になります。
規則変化:

② 最上級 + in / of
最上級の後ろには in（範囲） または of（グループ） が続きます。

③ 倍数表現
「A is 倍数 + as + 原級 + as B」= 「A は B の〜倍〜だ」

④ The 比較級, the 比較級
「The + 比較級 + S + V, the + 比較級 + S + V」= 「〜すればするほど、ますます〜」
The more you practice, the better your results will be.
（練習すればするほど、結果はより良くなります）
The earlier the project starts, the sooner it will be completed.
（プロジェクトが早く始まるほど、早く完了します）
テンのポイント: 前半の「The + 比較級」が原因・条件を表し、後半が結果を表します。前半の主語・動詞の位置に注意しましょう。
⑤ 比較を使った重要慣用表現（TOEIC頻出）

⑥ more than / less than の注意点

最上級は「the + 形容詞/副詞の最上級 + in / of」の形が基本です。倍数表現と The 〜er the 〜er 構文はTOEIC頻出パターンなので必ず押さえましょう。

Q1. 正解：(B) the most
「is _____ profitable branch」→ branch（支店）という名詞の前に最上級の形が必要です。「the most + 原級（profitable）」が最上級の形です。the を忘れないことがポイントです。
- (A) most → the がない最上級。最上級には通常 the が必要です（the most profitable）
- (C) more → 比較級。than とセットで使います。「最も〜」という意味を表すには最上級が必要です
- (D) as most → 「as + 最上級」という形はありません
Q2. 正解：(C) the shortest
「completed in _____ time of all the departments」→ of all（全ての〜の中で） があるので最上級が必要です。short の最上級は shortest（-est をつける）で、最上級には the が必要です。
- (A) shorter → 比較級。of all とは使えません（than を使った比較に使います）
- (B) short → 原級（変化なし）。「最短の」という意味を表すには最上級が必要です
- (D) as short → 原級比較（as 〜 as）の一部。「時間の中で最短」という意味は表せません
Q3. 正解：(A) twice
「_____ as large as」→ as 〜 as の前に倍数表現が来る形です。「2倍の広さ」= twice as large as（twice + as + 原級 + as）が正解です。
- (B) double → double は形容詞・動詞として使いますが、「double as large as」という形は使いません
