なぜやるか

英語には「しない」「ですか？」を作るための決まったルールがあります。

このルールを知らないと、Part5の動詞問題で「do と does のどちらを使うか」「not の位置はどこか」を感覚で選ぶしかなくなります。しかもbe動詞と一般動詞で作り方がまったく違うため、2つのルールをしっかり区別することが大切です。

また、TOEICのPart2（応答問題）は疑問文の聞き取りが中心です。疑問文の形を頭に入れておくと、聞き取りの精度が上がります。

このLesson 3を終えると、「be動詞の文か、一般動詞の文か」を判断した上で、否定文・疑問文を正確に作れるようになります。そして do / does / did の使い分けを迷わずに判断できるようになります。

① be動詞の否定文

be動詞の否定文は、be動詞の直後に not を置くだけです。

肯定文否定文
The office is closed today.The office is not closed today.
The files were ready.The files were not ready.

短縮形

is not → isn’t　／　are not → aren’t　／　was not → wasn’t　／　were not → weren’t

② 一般動詞の否定文

一般動詞の否定文は、do / does / did + not + 動詞の原形の形にします。

主語現在形の否定過去形の否定
I / You / We / They / 複数名詞do not + 原形did not + 原形
He / She / It / 単数名詞does not + 原形did not + 原形

重要: does not / did not の後ろは必ず動詞の原形です。does not approves は誤りです。

例文（オリジナル）

The client does not require any additional documentation.
（そのクライアントは追加書類を必要としません）
→ client ＝ 単数 → does not + 原形（require）

The team did not meet the deadline last quarter.
（チームは前四半期に締め切りを守れませんでした）
→ 過去の出来事 → did not + 原形（meet）

短縮形

do not → don’t　／　does not → doesn’t　／　did not → didn’t

③ be動詞の疑問文

be動詞の疑問文は、be動詞を文頭に出すだけです。

肯定文疑問文
The report is ready.Is the report ready?

④ 一般動詞の疑問文

一般動詞の疑問文は、Do / Does / Did + 主語 + 動詞の原形の形にします。

⑤ 答え方のルール

疑問文に答えるときは、聞かれたもので答えるのが基本です。

テンのポイント: Part2（応答問題）では、疑問文の最初の単語（Is / Does / Did など）を聞き取れれば、答えの形が予測できます。文頭に集中して聞く習慣をつけましょう。

be動詞と一般動詞で作り方が違う、というのが最初は混乱するポイントです。「be動詞 → notを後ろに置くだけ」「一般動詞 → do/does/didを使う」この2つを何度も声に出して確認しましょう。

Section A

“approve”（承認する）は一般動詞です。一般動詞の否定文は did not + 動詞の原形の形にします。過去の文（approved）なので did not を使います。
