なぜやるか
TOEICのPart5・Part6では、比較表現（as 〜 as / 比較級 + than）を使った問題が出ます。
例えば「The new model is _ efficient as the previous version.」では、as（as 〜 as の形）が入ります。また「The results were ___ than expected.」では、better（比較級）が入ります。
このLesson 23を終えると、原級（as 〜 as）・比較級（比較級 + than）の形と使い方、形容詞・副詞の比較級の作り方が正確にわかるようになります。

① 比較の3つの段階
比較の表現には「原級・比較級・最上級」の3つの段階があります。

② 原級比較（as 〜 as）
「A is as + 原級 + as B」= 「A は B と同じくらい〜」
The new branch is as large as the main office.
（新しい支店は本社と同じくらいの広さです）
She completed the task as quickly as her colleague.
（彼女は同僚と同じくらい素早くタスクを完了しました）
否定形: 「not as 〜 as」= 「〜ほど〜でない」
The revised plan is not as detailed as the original.
（修正版のプランは元のものほど詳細ではありません）
③ 比較級の作り方
規則変化:

④ 比較級 + than
「A is 比較級 + than B」= 「A は B よりも〜」
The new system processes data faster than the old one.

This approach is more cost-effective than the previous method.
（このアプローチは以前の方法よりも費用対効果が高いです）
⑤ 比較級を強める表現
比較級の前に副詞を置いて程度を強めることができます。

テンのポイント: very は比較級を強めるのに使えません（very faster は×）。比較級を強めるときは much / far / even / a little を使います。
⑥ as 〜 as を使った重要表現

問題を見たら「as 〜 as の形か（原級）」「比較級 + than の形か」を先に判断しましょう。空所の前後のキーワード（as / than）がヒントになります。

Section A
Q1. 正解：(D) shorter
「delivery time is _____ than」→ than があるので比較級の形が必要です。short の比較級は shorter（-er をつける）が正解です。
- (A) short → 原級（変化なし）。than の前には比較級が必要です
- (B) as short → 原級比較（as 〜 as）の途中の形。than とセットで使うことはできません
- (C) more short → short は1音節の語なので -er をつけます。more short は誤りです
Q2. 正解：(A) as high
「score is _____ as our competitors’」→ 空所の後ろに as があり、「A is as + 原級 + as B」の形です。「同じくらい高い」→ as high が正解です。
- (B) higher → 比較級。than とセットで使います。as とは使えません
- (C) the highest → 最上級。比較の対象（as …）とは使えません
- (D) highly → 副詞。ここでは be動詞（is）の後ろで主語の状態を説明する語が必要なので形容詞 high を使います

- (B) efficient → 形容詞（原級）。副詞が必要な位置に形容詞は入りません
- (C) efficiency → 名詞。副詞の位置に名詞は入りません
- (D) most efficiently → 最上級。than があるときは比較級を使います
