なぜやるか
Part6の語句選択問題では、文と文のつながり（論理展開）と指示語（this / these / it / they / such など）が「何を指しているか」の理解が必要です。1文単位の構造把握だけでなく、「前の文の何を受けているか」を意識して読む練習がPart6の得点を直接上げます。このLesson 18を終えると、2〜3文のつながりを素早く分析して指示語の照合ができるようになります。
やり方
指示語の照合手順
- 指示語（this / these / it / they / such 等）を見つける
- 直前の文（または段落）を読み返す
- 指示語に対応する名詞（句）を特定する
this / it → 単数名詞または文全体の内容
these / they → 複数名詞
such + 名詞→ 前述の内容と同種のもの
文のつながりパターン
追加：In addition / Furthermore / Moreover → 前文の内容を追加
対比：However / Nevertheless / On the other hand → 前文と反対の内容
結果：As a result / Therefore / Consequently → 前文の結果
例示：For example / For instance → 前文の具体例

文1｜it の照合
文A: The committee reviewed the annual report.
文B: It was found to contain several inaccuracies.
it = the annual report（文Aの目的語を受ける）
→ it は前の文の O（名詞）を受ける。
文2｜they の照合
文A: All department managers submitted their budget proposals (by the deadline).
文B: They will be reviewed (by the finance committee) (next week).
they = All department managers（複数形）
または they = their budget proposals（複数形）
→ 文脈から判断：レビューされるのは「予算案」→ They = the budget proposals
→ 文脈から、複数名詞のどちらを指すかを確認する。
文3｜this の照合
文A: The company decided to expand its operations (into the Southeast Asian market).
文B: This decision was welcomed (by investors) and (by local partners).
this decision = 「Southeast Asian 市場への進出という決定」（文A全体の内容）
→ this は前文の内容や行為を受けることが多い。
文4｜such の照合
文A: Some employees have requested the option of working from home (on certain days).
文B: Such arrangements are becoming increasingly common (in many industries).
Such arrangements = working from home on certain days のような柔軟な勤務形態
→ such + 名詞 は前文で述べた種類・カテゴリを受ける。
文5｜接続副詞 + 指示語の組み合わせ
文A: Sales in the domestic market declined (by ten percent) (last quarter).
文B: However, this drop was partially offset (by strong growth) (in the overseas division).
However → 逆接（前文と反対の内容）
this drop = Sales declined by ten percent（文Aの内容）
