なぜやるか
Part5で「so that / in case / as long as」の選択問題は頻出です。どれも似た意味に見えますが、「目的」「予防」「条件・範囲」という用途は明確に異なります。また、「命令文 + and/or」はPart5の短文問題で出題されます。このLesson 03を終えると、これらの接続詞を使い分け、文の論理関係を瞬時に把握できるようになります。
構文解説
so that / in order that（目的）
目的を表す接続詞節。
so that + S + can/will/may + V：「Aが〜できるように」（= in order that）
– We have prepared a detailed manual so that all employees can use the system effectively.
→ 全従業員がシステムを効果的に使えるように、詳細なマニュアルを用意した。
in order that + S + V：文語的で、ビジネス文書やフォーマルな文で使われる
– The meeting was rescheduled in order that all members could attend.
→ 全員が出席できるように、会議が再スケジュールされた。
TOEICで使う場面: so that の後ろには必ず「S + 助動詞 + V」の形が続く。so~that（結果）と混同しないように注意。
in case / for fear（予防・懸念）
in case + S + V：「〜するといけないから」「万が一〜の場合に備えて」
– Please save your work frequently in case the system crashes unexpectedly.
→ システムが突然クラッシュするといけないので、こまめに保存してください。
for fear + S + might/would + V：「〜を恐れて」（= in case, 文語的）
– The manager hesitated to speak up for fear that his proposal would be rejected.
→ 提案が却下されることを恐れて、部長は意見を言うことをためらった。
so that との違い:
– so that：「〜するために」（目的・ポジティブな行動）
– in case：「〜するといけないから」（予防・リスク回避）
as far as / as long as（範囲 vs 条件）

慣用表現: as far as ~ is concerned「〜に関する限り」はPart7で頻出。
命令文 + and/or
命令文 + and + S + V：「〜すれば…」（肯定的な条件）
命令文 + or + S + V：「〜しなければ…」（否定的な結果）
- Submit your expense report by Friday, and you will be reimbursed next week.
→ 経費精算書を金曜日までに提出すれば、来週精算されます。 - Leave early, or you will miss the connecting flight.
→ 早めに出発しなければ、乗り継ぎ便に乗り遅れますよ。
TOEICで使う場面: 命令文の後ろに and/or + S + V が続く選択問題。意味（肯定/否定）から and か or かを判断する。
