なぜやるか
Part5では仮定法過去「If S + 過去形, S + would + 原形」と仮定法過去完了「If S + had Vpp, S + would have Vpp」の時制の使い分けが問われます。また「If it were not for A（Aがなければ）」の言い換え、「I wish S + had Vpp（〜していればよかった）」の後悔の表現、「as if S + 仮定法（まるで〜のように）」の語形選択も頻出です。このLesson 25を終えると、仮定法の基本パターンを正確に判断できるようになります。
構文解説
仮定法過去・仮定法過去完了
仮定法過去（現在・未来の非現実）：If + S + 動詞の過去形（be動詞は were）, S + would / could / might + 動詞の原形
仮定法過去完了（過去の非現実）：If + S + had + 過去分詞, S + would / could / might + have + 過去分詞

if の省略と倒置：If を省略すると助動詞・had が主語の前に出ます。
- If she had been informed → Had she been informed, the decision might have been different.
- If it were not for the team → Were it not for the team, the project would fail.

If it were not for A：「Aがなければ（今）」（= But for A / Without A） → 仮定法過去
If it had not been for A：「Aがなかったなら（過去）」（= But for A / Without A） → 仮定法過去完了

I wish / If only（非現実な願望）
I wish S + 過去形：「〜であればよいのに」（現在の非現実）
I wish S + had Vpp：「〜していればよかったのに」（過去の後悔）
If only S + 仮定法：I wish と同じ意味で、より強い感情を表す
The CFO wishes the organization had allocated more resources to the finance team during the period of rapid expansion.
→ CFOは、急速な成長期に会社が財務チームにもっと多くのリソースを配分していればよかったと思っている。If only the development team had conducted additional user testing before the product went live, the critical performance issues could have been avoided.
→ 製品のリリース前に開発チームが追加のユーザーテストを実施していれば、重大なパフォーマンスの問題を避けられたのに。
as if / as though（様態の仮定法）
as if / as though + 仮定法過去：「まるで〜のように（主節と同時点の非現実）」
as if / as though + 仮定法過去完了：「まるで〜だったかのように（主節より前の非現実）」
The department head responds to every routine update as if it were a full-scale operational crisis.
→ 部門長は日常的なすべての更新報告に、まるでそれが本格的な業務上の危機であるかのように対応する。（現在・同時）The senior analyst presented the report as if she had been studying the market trends for an entire decade.
→ シニアアナリストは、まるで10年間もその市場トレンドを研究してきたかのようにレポートを発表した。（過去・先行）
