なぜやるか

Part7のビジネスメール・報告書・記事では「The new system enables teams to collaborate（新システムによりチームが連携できる）」のように、物・状況・データなどを主語に置く無生物主語の構文が頻繁に登場します。日本語では「〜のおかげで / 〜によって / 〜のために」と訳すのがコツです。このLesson 29を終えると、無生物主語の構文を自然に読み取り、正確に意味を把握できるようになります。

構文解説

無生物主語 + make / enable / allow / cause / force / prevent

英語では物・状況・出来事などを主語に置いて「〜によってBが…する」という構造を好みます。

• The new inventory management system makes it possible for warehouse staff to track real-time stock levels across all distribution points.
  → 新しい在庫管理システムにより、倉庫スタッフはすべての流通拠点でリアルタイムの在庫水準を追跡することが可能になった。

• The unexpected spike in raw material costs caused the procurement team to renegotiate all existing supplier contracts before the next quarter.
  → 原材料コストの予期せぬ急騰が、調達チームに次の四半期の前にすべての既存サプライヤー契約を再交渉させる原因となった。

• The new regulatory amendment prevented the company from proceeding with its planned expansion into the adjacent market segment.
  → 新しい規制改正が、会社が隣接する市場セグメントへの計画的な拡張を進めるのを妨げた。

無生物主語 + show / tell / reveal / convince / remind

show / indicate / reveal + that節：「〜であることを示す / 明らかにする」
tell / inform + O + that節：「Oに〜を知らせる / 伝える」
convince / persuade + O + to do~：「Oを〜するよう納得させる」

• The quarterly sales figures show that the revised pricing strategy is generating stronger profit margins across all product categories.
  → 四半期の売上数字は、改訂された価格戦略がすべての製品カテゴリーでより強い利益率を生み出していることを示している。

• The audit findings convinced the board to commission a thorough review of all procurement procedures before approving the annual budget.
  → 監査結果が取締役会を説得し、年次予算を承認する前にすべての調達手続きの徹底的な見直しを委託させた。

時・場所の無生物主語

時を表す名詞（the past decade / the coming year）が主語
場所を表す名詞（this region / the new facility）が主語
→ 日本語では「〜では / 〜において / 〜にて」と訳すのがコツ
